Fault injection testing (FIT) a a method to either verify that system behavior assumed in an FMEA analysis is correct or to verify the hardware component faults are properly detected and mitigated. Additionally the FIT is an excellent to to perform challenge testing for software controlled systems because the software stimulus is asynchronous to the specific state of the software system.

Our experience has show that FIT based on critical signal path analysis is a superb method to identify potential safety problems in programmable electronic systems and highly recommend to use the method as integral part of any embedded system verification and validation.
