Home :: Methodologies :: Analysis :: FMEA The evaluation of component failure rates and failure modes and the resulting effects is a proven method to determine the probabilities for safe and dangerous failure probability of hardware systems (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis - FMEA). In intelligent systems the potential to diagnose failures before they become critical has to be additionally considered (Failure Mode, Effect and Detectability Analysis - FMEDA). FMEA/FMEDA allows to determine the overall safe and dangerous failure rates and determines the Safe Failure Fraction (SFF) as required by IEC 61508.
