Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) can be used in multiple ways during the development process.

During the hazard analysis this method allows evaluating multiple cause scenarios in a graphical way and makes dependencies between multiple events transparent. It also helps to identify the combination of events that may lead to a hazard.

As and analysis tool for an existing system the FTA allows to identify critical event paths and to quantitatively calculate the probability of the top-level events.
