Software Safety

The term "software safety" is misleading. Software in itself can not be safe, only in context of a system or an application the determination of safe or unsafe is possible. The term is often used to characterize the controlled software development process and associated software testing (verification and validation).  Especially in embedded systems or real-time applications the verification activities are closely linked to the hardware and process behavior that verification is almost impossible without fully integration the software into the system.
